Some 15 years ago Frans made his first drum....this was a part of his shamanic journey and of course this drum became a valuable piece within his Shamanic Tool kit. Many years later a wild boar skin found its way onto a second drum, and during African initiation a baby goat graced yet another drum frame. While teaching his own students, he continued the journey he had begun with making drums and passing on his own learning from other Native persons to students.
As with any art, there have been trials and errors and successes along the way. His tenacity and commitment to his craft has made him the one to go to for your drum, be it for personal or community use. With each broken thong, there is a lesson, too much or too little oil, water, or stretch, and each drum has its own weaving dynamic.
Over time, his workshops have taken various forms as he has also refined how to best invest time and energy into ensuring your drum will be the best it possibly can be.
Before you arrive for the workshop, you will be given the option of various skins to choose from. You will be kept in the loop about the drum, thoughts and prayers as they weave from the dream world into this world of your particular drum and it’s making. The day of the workshop you will get to engage with and connect with your unique drum and, using leather from the same skin your drum was formed, and the options of raw or more finished wood, you will create a drum stick for your drum, sanding/engraving/decorating it as you feel called to.
A drum awakening ceremony or ritual is shared, to help you further connect and infuse your drum with your own breath and life force.
